Payment, Insurance and Transportation Options

All of our products are ' Priced ' FOB origin.
All of our products are ' Sold ' either ;

What do these all mean ?

For detailed explanation of these and other internationally accepted terminology for 'shippers' and 'buyers', please see the Incoterms section of this site.

i. FOB. The term FOB stands for Free On Board.

When you purchase 'something' and pay for it with terms 'FOB origin' it means the responsibility of the Seller (Parallax) stops when the 'goods' are delivered to the transporting company at our factory.

It also means if something gets lost or is damaged during transport, it is between You (the Buyer) and the transportation company to settle it. We will, of course, co-operate with you and the carrier to the best of our ability.

    Exact INCOTERMS wording follows
"«Free on Board» means that the seller delivers when the goods pass the ship's rail at the named port of shipment. This means that the buyer has to bear all costs and risks of loss of or damage to the goods from that point. The FOB term requires the seller to clear the goods for export" (meaning we file Shippers' Export Declaration and get export permit). The FOB term is meant to be used only for sea or inland waterway transport. If the parties do not intend to deliver the goods across the ship's rail, the FCA term below should be used.

FCA FREE CARRIER (... named place) «Free CArrier» means that the seller delivers the goods, cleared for export, to the carrier nominated by the buyer at the named place. It should be noted that the chosen place of delivery has an impact on the obligations of loading and unloading the goods at that place. If delivery occurs at the seller's premises, the seller is responsible for loading. If delivery occurs at any other place, the seller is not responsible for unloading. This term may be used irrespective of the mode of transport, including multimodal transport. «Carrier» means any person who, in a contract of carriage, undertakes to perform or to procure the performance of transport by rail, road, air, sea, inland waterway or by a combination of such modes. If the buyer nominates a person other than a carrier to receive the goods, the seller is deemed to have fulfilled his obligation to deliver the goods when they are delivered to that person.

Example 1.
Chin Yu Ltd in China buys a laser from Parallax and pays for it FOB Origin.
Chin Yu Ltd has an account with 'ABC Transport'.
Chin Yu also has an insurance policy with Ho Hsai Insurance of Taiwan.

When the shipment is ready, Parallax will call 'ABC Transport' to come and pick it up. After pick up Parallax is out of the picture.

Of course, if a damage occurs, we will work with you and your transportation company to do the forms you need to file a 'claim'. However please don't expect us to send you a free replacement.

Example 2.
You buy a laser and pay FCA Origin.
You have an account with DHL.
You give us your account number and ask us to ship it via DHL and insure the laser for $4,000 with DHL.

After pick up, it is between you and DHL. Again, we will work with you and your transport company if anything goes wrong.

ii. CIP. The term CIP stands for Carriage and Insurance Paid to..

When you purchase 'something' and pay for it with terms 'CIP Destination', it means you pay Parallax for cost of the goods + cost of insurance + cost of transportation to destination and Parallax will buy insurance and will pay for transporting the goods to destination (your place).

For CIP Destination you must ask Parallax to calculate the CIP cost for your particular purchase to your particular destination (International customers pay applicable duties and import taxes in their own country).

Also you have to decide what is your level of comfort with 'damage or loss of goods'. Lasers are expensive and delicate. You must decide how much you want to spend on insurance.

Example 3. Green Laser Ltd. in Belfast, Ireland wants to buy a laser from Parallax and pay for it "CIP Belfast". Parallax will send Green Laser Ltd. a Proforma Invoice that shows all the costs including dimensions and weights. Parallax will also tell you about your insurance options for 'loss', for 'damage' for 'replacement' etc. A final invoice will be sent to Green Laser Ltd. only after all the shipping and insurance details have been worked out.

iii. C&F. The term C&F stands for Cost (of the product) and Freight

Due to the high value of laser products, we strongly recommend that the purchaser obtain adequate insurance to cover any possible Loss and / or Damage to the goods.
